Uttarakhand: Army begins rescue operation as thousands remain stranded

Hardwar: The Army has begun rescue operations in Uttarakhand with the help of civil administration and volunteers even as 100 pilgrims, who were stranded between Govindghat and Joshimath, were rescued. Twenty-two more have been rescued from the Shimla bypass.
Thousands of tourists and pilgrims remain stranded in the state due to landslides. At least 13 people have died in Uttarakhand.
Heavy floods have been recorded in Uttarkashi and other parts of Uttarakhand. The Hemkund pilgrimage has also been put on hold. More than 20,000 people are stranded due to landslides. In Dehradun, three people have reportedly died in the heavy rainfall that hasn't stopped in the past 36 hours.
